Calvin leaned down to coax Ava into his arms and picked her up gently, letting her half-cling to his side. He murmured to her in Aurellian for a moment and her brows drew together as she regarded Beau with great seriousness, turning her head slightly. Then, she bowed to him (unable to curtsey, given how high she was off the ground) and plucked out one of the pale pink flowers in her hair and worked it, slowly but with clear skill, into Beau's crown.
Then she hugged Calvin tight, kissed his cheek, and wriggled down to run off in the opposite direction. Calvin watched her fondly as she zipped away, then turned his attention back to Beau. "So you've returned," he said warmly. "And just in time for Turning. An auspicious sign."
