Reagan & Viola | Evening; Directly after her dance with Luke | Town Circle
Viola's gasp might have made her feel extremely uncomfortable had it not been for the hilarious hiccup there at the end. Reagan's obvious surprise quickly gave way to a sharp bark of laughter, and then she did press her fingers to her lips so that the two women, both of them well into their cups and acting quite outside of their normal character, were shielding their mouths like small children sharing secrets.
Still, Vi's prying set a small crease between Reagan's brows, and she slowly dropped her hand to reveal that her teeth had begun to worry at the corner of her bottom lip. It had been an accident, the way she'd blurted out such a personal facet of her life, and it was taking visible effort for her to try and be conscious of what she did or did not say in front of the doctor now. "Like I said, it's a long story," she murmured slowly, "and it was a long time ago. We were children. Our mothers thought it was a good idea."
Again, it did not occur to her to avoid mentioning the arranged nature of her engagement.... most Cloves, in her experience, tended to have strong opinions on the matter.
