"I believe the bartender went over that way," Sibyla replied, indicating toward the direction she had seen the barmaid go. The woman had her back to them but she would likely come by again. Sure enough, she turned and Everil waved her over, but not before Sibyla felt a surge of power. Sibyla was well-trained enough in her talents to sense a power store filling, even if she wasn't the type to take advantage of a person's stores.
It was then that Sibyla heard the other woman's voice in her head. She panicked, immediately drawing on any available flame instinctively to put up protective barriers in her mind. Even as she did it, she felt a wave of something. Well, that was new, but then, so was hearing voices in her head when she wasn't even Reading someone.
Sibyla forced herself to calm down and assess the situation. It was impossible that Sibyla had Read Everil because she hadn't been drawing on a power source. Or had she? She couldn't have subconsciously done it when she felt the storing, had she? That had never happened before. Perhaps this had something to do with Everil so, still drawing on the flames in the room, she tentatively reached out with her mind to attempt to Read her. It was clear the woman had been trying to Read her, too, and she had been "grabbing for contacts" but perhaps her reflexes weren't quick enough to keep her out entirely.
