What did he like about this place? "Well," he began, tapping his fingers on the table. "It's a good chance to live a life." Perhaps that was slightly cryptic, but it was the truth. Back home, that wasn't entirely an option. Not when it really came down to it.
"For a long time, I didn't think that was possible." He grinned, chuckling under his breath. "I'm sure you thought the same thing. Not that before wasn't a life. Even with some of the more complicated things that happen, it's usually easier to handle than fighting wars."
Because wars? They could be exhausting. Many of the battles Steve had faced were that and then some. They were trying and always weighed heavily even if they'd been on the winning side.
Loss was still loss.
"Bucky's a good guy. Best friend a person could ask for. We've been through...a lot." He laughed again, shaking his head. That seemed to be a running theme for everyone, going through a lot. "So, Natasha and I were your parents back home, huh?" It made him blush just a bit.
