It was hard not to grin as James asked questions and went on about his arrival. Steve was glad to hear that Tony took the kids for burgers. They probably needed them. "Two? That sounds about right for the burgers here. I think people might be jealous that we can eat two or three without a second thought." Coffee was the ideal drink of choice with burgers, but they had some time. Steve had nowhere to be other than right here with James.
"I like it here. I'll be honest, though. It has moments that aren't great. Moments that might test you on different levels. I've made some really bad decisions and done some things I'm not proud of, but it wasn't me."
Being open and honest with James was better than not. He needed to know the ups and downs. Fortunately, the good tended to outweigh the bad unless the infamous Thingy was feeling particularly prickly.
"So, be prepared for that kind of thing and know that, eventually, it goes back to normal. We'll work through it and pick ourselves up in the aftermath. No matter what, we're here for each other." Steve realized that he was the one maybe talking a bit too much. Maybe he was being the weird one and inundating James with too much.
