Who: Hugo Weasley & Clare Boot What: Girls' night!! JUST KIDDING, DRAMA AT THE DANCE. When: Saturday night Where: At the Masquerade.
Hugo Weasley was only fifteen, but there were a number of things he was quite sure of. One of those things was the fact that the Chudley Cannons, despite a less-than-impressive history, were simply the greatest quidditch team ever to be formed. He also knew that he loved quidditch the way some people liked boring things like collecting rocks or reading text books. He knew that his mother and his father were famous and though it was sometimes to be only known because of who they were, he really liked both of them and they were pretty all right, as far as parents go. He also knew that he and his three best friends, despite them being one year older than him and all four of them having drastically different personalities, were the type of blokes to stay friends forever and that nothing would ever tear them apart. It sounded stupid to admit that in his head, but it was truly how Hugo felt, and though he had been sure of many things in his life, this fact was high on his list considering how absolutely sure he was about it.
Or he had been, until recently. What Hugo had never anticipated was the intrusion of a female into their tightly-woven group. Suddenly, what had seeemed unbreakable yesterday seemed fragile now. How could he have even guessed that Jaz did like his sister--and that his sister liked his best mate back? The idea of having to share his best friend with someone else was an unfathomable idea, and Hugo was keenly aware of--well, being left behind. Suddenly girls were becoming a part of the equation, and Hugo, though having always had a girl in his life (at the very least, Jamie Twonk present in his heart), knew that this introduction of The Girlfriend and Girls I Fancy was something that would change the scope of his relationships from here on out.
He was upset, to say the least. Nobody liked to be left behind.
For the Masquerade, Hugo had worn a costume most students had laughingly recognized: Professor Flitwick, albeit if Professor Flitwick had been a tall, gangly redheaded boy. He had spent much of the dance actually enjoying himself with Jamie Twonk, the girl of his dreams, but his perfect happiness was marred by several things, the most pressing one on his mind being the two couples he could see in his peripheral vision. Rose and Jaz, of course, being sickeningly cute and taking in congratulations or whatever they were doing while staring at one another from an extremely close distance, and more disturbing, Connley and Clare laughing at one another and having a good time.
The injustice of it all!
Having decided he couldn't take much more, Hugo had decided to cut Jamie loose to socialize a bit with her friends while he went and poured himself a mug of pumpkin juice, while he leaned against the wall and looked consumptive and tragic.
