Who: Evelyn Smith. What: A letter to Nana Smith. When: Thursday. Rating: G (but again, fair warning for tl;dr).
Dear Nana,
I’m still doing alright. Hufflepuff is ahead in points for the second week running, so that should give you some small idea of how much havoc I’m wreaking. I can’t promise I’ll stay good all year, but at least for right now I’m too busy to cause trouble. I’ll try to keep my nose clean for a little while longer for your sake, at least.
Did you see the new pictures of Tim that Sam’s been sending round? He looks like he’s getting to be a pudgy little tyke, eh? He must get that from her side, I guess. Speaking of the New Smiths, dad called me last week and had a nice gripe about me not giving house quidditch a go this year. I know I’m pretty good, but I just can’t be bothered. It seems like he and mum are always trying to force hobbies on me when I what I need to do is keep up with studying. If I keep going on the way I am there’s no way I’ll get above an A in Defense, and I don’t really see having my name on a roster helping that at all. Do you think you could have a word with him? I know that he was happy just passing when he was here, but It would mean a lot to me to be the best at something. I really need a win under my belt right now, and him talking me down for not trying out isn’t helping any.
Oh! Here’s a relevant piece of information! You know that prefect who wrote a note on the end last week? He informed my yesterday that we’re friends now. Apparently. So that brings up my total of non-Macmillon friends to, what, three? Successful week in my book. Still no wedding planning though, got it? Just thought you ought to know since I know you worry. I don’t know how I ended up so socially retarded, but I seem to be doing a little better this year.
I know this one is rounding out to be a little short, but I should probably go. I’m trying to wrangle Katey (my dorm mate... have I mentioned her before?) into studying with me. She’s not very good in classes and I feel like she could really improve a lot. I think she’s actually really smart and she’d do well if given the chance. So wish me luck in convincing her to crack a book with me.
