WHO: Remus Lupin & Sirius Black. WHAT: A tête-à-tête. WHEN: Two or so weeks ago. WHERE: The library. WARNINGS: N/A. STATUS: Complete.
“Could you please stop shaking your leg?” Remus asked as he looked across the table at his friend. Honestly, he should have known better than to invite Sirus to the library with him. Nothing was ever going to be accomplished when they were left to their own devices, especially studying. “I’m fairly sure they can hear the chair creaking all the way in the front of the library.”
"That's because it's too quiet in here," Sirius said, not softly. He drummed his fingers on the table and leaned his chair back on two legs, something that he knew the librarian hated. Come to think of it, Remus probably hated it too. He let the chair fall back down and then leaned forward across the table toward Remus. "Moony, take a break. Let's do something besides homework."
Remus let out a quiet snort. “What happened to the Sirius the other day who was trying to encourage me to take the NEWTs and being the best academic I could be?”
"You can take your NEWTs without spending all of your time wasting away in the library reading the same thing over and over again," he answered quickly, one word moving into the next with hardly a pause in between. "Come on, close your book and let's find something else to do."
“Some of us happen to actually like the library, Sirius,” his friend answered with a small shrug. “Besides. I’m not exactly sure I trust anything else you want to do.”
Sirius leaned in towards him. "You don't trust me, Moony?"
This time Remus let out a loud snort. “My Mum always said never to trust a guy who asks if I trust him.”
A very slow smile spread out across Sirius's face. "Mmn well, your mum is a smart woman. As opposed to my dear old mother, who is batshit crazy and I wouldn't trust to tie my shoe even when I was a wee thing."
“She has her moments,” Remus answered as he didn’t exactly want to get into a battle over mothers with Sirius. “And I think she might actually be right in this case.”
"You've known me how long, Moony, and we've done all these things together, and you don't trust me just because I said you should trust me?" Sirius gave him a big pout and sat back, crossing his arms. "That makes me very sad."
Remus shook his head, though a small smile crept across his lips.. “I think how long I’ve known you and all the things we’ve done together are exact reasons why I shouldn’t exactly trust you, Padfoot.”
He huffed a bit, rolled his eyes. "Yes, well jolly good and all that. Get back to your homework, then, mate. I'll sit here and watch you." Sirius's bag was slung over the back of the chair beside him but he hadn't pulled any of his books or things out of it. And he had no intention to. In fact, it was possible that he didn't even have any school work in there in the first place.
“I promise you we can do something fun later,” Remus answered as a smirk formed along his lips. “Promise.”
