June 6, after this.

I am sure that Gideon is aware, but it would hardly be thorough of me to refrain from passing along that there's been a break-in at the Ministry. You know how I feel about crossing my 'ts.' Levels 2 and 5. They're claiming that nothing was taken.
I'll keep a careful ear out in case anyone in Mysteries hears anything relevant. Presuming you think that's necessary.

Let's keep an eye on the situation from all angles.
People on floor 2 hear certain things. People on floor 10 hear other things.
Whatever people gather from various floors might combine into something useful.

"a break in" is a strange thing to happen in a building that's open 24 hours. We're all gossiping around the tea carts, because they won't let us work today.

Somebody knows something, because the low-level investigative people were basically looking at everything, and someone gave them new orders and we've been ignored for the last 4 hours.

It sounds as if your lot are under a bit of a cloud, then.

We've been reassured several times that Level 9 wasn't touched and therefore no projects have been compromised, though of course it's not being believed particularly. More than one person is convinced against all available evidence that his special area of study must have been the eventual target. But then Mysteries is a possessive and rather egomaniacal lot. Though one might imagine rather more concerned with said evidence than is proving true at the moment.

I think we're bored and feeling left out, in the end. Perhaps I'll take a walk and see what I hear.

I wouldn't be surprised. DMLE doesn't love us being on 'their' floor. We might hear things they don't want us to hear, and we're not 'really' DMLE. It's true, because technically, we're not part of the Ministry, but nobody ever pays attention to that.

They feel like they've had their nose bloodied, because whatever happened, happened on 'their' floor, which had a regular night crew on it. It's probably why they're resenting us, and may even wonder if we had something to do with breaching 'their' security.

Probably closer scrutiny the next few days, at least...

Did anyone on the night crew see anything at all, or are they managing to keep such things hushed up for once?

No one's saying. WAS‡ seldom works overnight unless there's a ritual requiring a full moon or something. It's one of the reasons DMLE resent us. We leave at 5, and that's not the case for Hits.

Do you have any friends you can talk to amongst the aurors? They're supposedly the loose cannons, after Mysteries, of course. Anyone working in prophesies have anything useful to add?

Hey, there goes Sallah, the Welcome Witch, leaving floor 2. I wonder what they were talking to her about...

Da's favorite advice for working in a bureaucracy was always cultivate the Welcome Witch. Aside from being kind, you never know who else they're friends with or where they'll end up.

I'm gonna see if she wants a spot of tea...

There's a Macmillan cousin. We're not close, so I'll have to wait til the next family gathering at month's end to see what I can suss out unless I contrive to bump into her at the tea cart one of these days. I'll do what I may without arousing comment. I'm not quite sure this particular curiosity is worth suspicion.

May the Prewett charm serve you well with Sallah.
