Gideon makes the rounds with the others. Although he's a confident flier, he's nervous about having his technique evaluated by a pro like McG. He's very willing to try various dodging manoeuvers that aren't necessarily good Quidditch but which may be useful in the face of a dragon.
He makes sure to practice in-flight apparition, and uses this to get past the sudden shields.
He tells people to apparate behind the dragon if they get into trouble, or to somewhere out of line of sight of the creature. People who get nauseated when they disapparate should try not to need to apparate.
