The full moon was that evening, and though this "new" Simon seemed more open with her about this time of the month, Padma had to admit that she was more than a little skittish that he would suddenly remember everything from years past. They hadn't even spent one full moon together completely after his attack before everything fell apart, and she knew that people had a tendency to revert to older versions of themselves when confronted by similar situations. Would this time be any different? She hoped so. Merlin did she hope so. That part of her that wanted to be there for him, to ease at least a little of his suffering, was stronger now than it had been in a long time. Padma had been keeping track of the full moon every month for the last eight years; she'd even learned some of the nicknames given to them. On top of this worry, she had a newer, fresher concern: Michael Corner's revelation. It was never a good feeling rejecting someone -- in fact, it was a downright awful feeling, though she couldn't imagine that it was more painful than being rejected -- but it was Michael, her best mate outside of Parvati for her entire life. Since Friday, Padma hadn't quite been as chipper as she had been, and though Simon eased that feeling, she had a sneaking suspicion that Simon might get tired of it, or at least more snappish. "I told my mum and dad about us the other day," she said, taking drink from her water. "Mum said it was time you got your head out of your rear end." The twins' father hadn't said a word. Simon laughed under his breath. Padma's mother had always adored him, even speaking with him after he and Padma had parted ways. Padma's father... well, Simon suspected he'd never be quite right in Alagan's eyes, though he hoped one day to make up past errors to the man. "It was time, wasn't it?" he said with a slight grin, looking impish. It was only a few hours until the full moon, after all, and he always got more and more restless. Tearing around the neighbourhood at a gallop was his usual way of spending time before the moon rose, but he was determined to be a good boyfriend and show Padma how very mature he was. Even if inwardly he was anxious and terrified and hungry and horny and all sorts of things that he would rather not concentrate upon. Padma had seemed a little down lately. Not the sort of depression that meant she was angry with him, but something had been bothering her. He leaned forward and nipped a quick kiss on her nose. "I think she really just wanted to see your cute bottom around the house again, to be honest. You should have heard her going on and on about it back then," Padma laughed, rubbing her nose as if she was put out by his little kiss. With a sigh, she plopped her legs over his lap and fell against his chest. "If I'm not careful, she might try to steal you from me." "And then Parvati really will want to behead me," Simon surmised, letting her curl up. His tone was joking; even if Parvati filled him with unholy terror, Simon going for the twins' mum was clearly just silly. He traced Padma's cheek with a finger, smiling at her smally. "How long do you want to stay tonight?" Quaffle in her court. "Er..." Surprised, she pulled up to look at him, blinking rather dumbly. She had no idea what sort of answer she was supposed to give. This was sort of uncomfortable, because she wanted to stay the entire night. She wanted to be there when he changed back to himself so she could show him that she wasn't afraid of him, that she could handle it. But that had gotten her in trouble in the first place, hadn't it? "H-how long do you want me to stay?" He shrugged, unsure of what to answer. He didn't want to be alone. He'd gotten entirely too used to Terry being around during the uncomfortable nights. "I asked you first," he said childishly, his smile tinged with a tense sadness. "Well, I want to be there with you through it all --" She hated the idea of him being alone, even if she could never truly be there with him. Sometimes Padma hated that she could read him like a book, especially when she could tell that his silly reply was masking something. She leaned up and nuzzled his throat. "-- but I'd understand if it made you too uncomfortable..." "Mmmf." With that, he tilted his head down and kissed her. He'd intended it to be a sweet kiss, but there was an edge to it, a wildness. Simon ducked his head away and landed a much more chaste kiss on her jawline. "It'll be weird. If it doesn't bother you... I mean... I don't like it. But I'm not ever going to like it, so might as well get it over with now before it becomes a great big thing again, you know?" And yet another surprise. It was so peculiar; he was still Simon, but he was almost like he'd been when they first dated, sometimes a little "too" open. Padma rather enjoyed this Simon; it made him much easier to talk to. "Then I'll be there, but I want you to tell me if you get too uncomfortable, all right? I'll leave if you want me to. I'm not going to put you on the spot when it comes to this. I am not willing to let you be alone." She'd said much the same things eight years before, but this felt different. Was different. Simon nodded to her words, and fell just a little bit more in love with her when he actually listened to them. "All right. Then that's how it'll be." Leaning forward, he kissed her again, this time minding that he didn't get too carried away, ignoring the antsiness growing in his limbs. It was a shame, then, that she had other ideas on her mind. Things that involved a lack of clothing, some heavy panting, and lots of sweat. Her hand clasped behind his neck, keeping his mouth pinned against her. "Bet I can keep your mind off of tonight for these last couple of hours then. Up for the challenge?" |
