Ianto was stewing in annoyance as he thrust flyers at the tourists and shoved them out the door. Locking up and turning the sign around to closed, he then hurried downstairs to the main floor of the Hub, grinding his teeth together when he saw Jack wasn't anywhere near the coffee machine. Bypassing Jack's office, he brewed some more coffee before taking a cup in to the boss. "Will there be anything else, sir?" he asked, his eyes locked on Jack's and while his expression was passive, his gaze was intense. "Yeah... what did I tell you about calling me sir, unless it was in bed?" Jack grinned, but caught sight of Ianto's look and his smile faltered. "Ianto, you know I wouldn't intentionally do anything to your coffee machine. Right?" Ianto's hands moved to his hips. "Oh, I don't know," he said with a dry sarcasm. "Given that we're onto our third coffee machine since I started here, I wouldn't want to take that for granted. And it's never intentional, is it?" "Hey... I did NOT break the second machine. That was Owen. But yeah, I already took responsibility months ago for breaking the first one." Jack took a sip of the coffee and closed his eyes. He had to admit, Ianto did make the best cup of coffee ever. "And no, it's never intentional." Ianto quirked an eyebrow, a smile twitching his lips as Jack sipped his coffee and closed his eyes. "You are like a spoiled child sometimes," he said with fond exasperation. "Couldn't even wait five minutes." "Can't help it... you make damn good coffee and I've gotten spoiled by it. Besides... if I didn't demand coffee and showed up with something from Urban Roast instead, you'd pout," Jack said, grinning as he teased him. "Damn right I would," Ianto replied, unable to keep the grin from his face now, his arms relaxing by his side. "Now, is there anything else you need, or can I go back to work?" "Hmm... how about something sweet to go with my coffee?" he suggested, wiggling his eyebrows and grinning up at Ianto. "Maybe something Welsh?" Ianto pretended to think about this. "I think we're out of Welsh cakes," he mused, then grinned at Jack, rolling his eyes as he walked around the desk to sit on the edge, near Jack. "Or did you have something else in mind?" Jack reached out and took hold of Ianto's hand, giving him a tug towards him. "Definitely something else. Something tall, dark, handsome, and very tasty..." He winked at Ianto and set down his coffee mug out of the way. Ianto smirked as he moved towards Jack, reaching up with his free hand to curl his fingers around the back of Jack's neck as he leaned down for a coffee-flavoured kiss. Sliding his fingers through Ianto's short hair, Jack smiled as they kissed. Before Ianto could pull back, Jack kissed him again more deeply and took hold of his tie. Now Ianto was definitely glad he had shoved those tourists out the door. His hand found Jack's thigh as they kissed, and slid along the firm muscle. He really hoped Gwen was out somewhere this afternoon. "So... about that treat I wanted..." Jack chuckled and gave a playful tug on Ianto's tie. "I was thinking since things have been pretty quiet lately that we could all call it an early day, go have some dinner, maybe catch a movie... then catch up on that paperwork you've been after me to do? Might need to make an all nighter of it," he said, knowing Ianto would understand what he really meant. "That wasn't it?" Ianto asked, smiling as Jack tugged on his tie. He straightened up but stayed where he was perched on the edge of Jack's desk. His eyebrows rose at Jack's suggestion but he looked pleased too. "That sounds perfect," he admitted, reaching up to gently stroke Jack's cheek. "I'll go and feed Janet and Myfanwy a bit early then." "Good. I was thinking maybe we could go to Bellini's out in the Quay," he suggested. Jack smiled and wrapped Ianto's tie around his hand, using his grip to pull the young man in closer for another kiss. "Sounds good," Ianto murmured as he was tugged towards Jack, smirking at him until their lips met. Here he was expecting a night of the usual routine and Jack surprised him with plans of an actual date. And hopefully they would actually get to finish it. Jack grinned and activated his comm. "Hey Gwen? Go head home... it's quiet tonight. See you in the morning." He turned his attention back to Ianto and winked, finally letting go of the tie. Ianto grinned and reached out to ruffle Jack's hair. "Meet you back here in ten?" he asked, figuring he could get what he needed to do done in ten minutes. He was hoping he might be able to talk Jack into staying over at his place tonight. It wasn't anything special, but it was better than Jack's quarters. Looked at his watch, Jack smirked and nodded. "Ten minutes and counting," he teased. He ran his fingers through his hair and leaned back in his chair, while his thoughts were already focusing on the evening ahead. Chuckling at the memory those words evoked, Ianto pulled out the stopwatch and clicked it on, winking at Jack. "Always at the ready." Standing up, he left the office, heading down to the vault to take care of Janet and then took the stairs two at a time back up to feed Myfanwy. They were really the only essential things he had to do, especially considering he was hoping not to be back before morning. After making sure the coffee machine was off, he made it back into Jack's office and clicked the stopwatch off with a minute to spare. "Ready?" Jack was just pulling on his greatcoat when Ianto returned to the office. "Yeah, all set. Just finished sending off that e-mail to UNIT in response to their request for access to some of our tech." He laughed and rolled his eyes. "Like that's ever going to happen..." "I'm surprised they're still asking," Ianto replied lightly, but he suspected he knew the answer to that. UNIT had sent requests through several times while Jack had been MIA and Ianto had dealt with them all by replying as Jack with a denial every time. By the time they realised Jack had been gone, he was already back but he would be willing to bet they were hoping Jack would disappear again. "Walking or taking the SUV?" he asked as they left Jack's office. "Hmm... walking. It's a nice night and it's just across the Plass and the road anyways. Come on... we'll take the short cut," he said, jogging down the stairs. Jack stepped up onto the invisible lift and smiled, offering his arm to Ianto. Ianto followed Jack up onto the invisible lift, taking his arm with a slight roll of his eyes. "Beam me up, Scotty," he couldn't resist joking, already enjoying their night and mentally threatening death to anything that interrupted it. Jack chuckled and used his wrist cuff to activate the lift. He slid an arm around Ianto's waist and smiled. It had been a while since the two of them had been able to slip away for a night out, considering there were only three of them left to run Torchwood now. Ianto leaned in to Jack a bit as they rose above the Hub. He had been debating for a couple of weeks now when would be the right time to bring up recruiting new team members. He wasn't sure if any of them were ready to see someone sitting at Tosh or Owen's desks, but they couldn't go on with just three of them forever. If nothing else, they needed a doctor to patch them up when things got messy. If this date didn't end well, Ianto decided, then he would definitely bring it up tomorrow. He just hoped he hadn't jinxed himself with that thought. When the lift reached the surface, Jack waited for a moment for the people to pass by. He stepped down off it and smiled, striding across the Plass and up towards the Mermaid Quay area. "Did we get in those new monitors yet that you ordered?" Ianto strode beside Jack, enjoying the way the force of the man's charisma cut a path through the crowd. "They should arrive tomorrow," he replied, dodging a child who was wandering away from his mother. "Great. What else was in that order?" he asked, trying to wrack his memory. There had been so many things that needed to be replaced and fixed after John and Gray had infiltrated the Hub. And the team was still getting things shipped in. Ianto thought for a moment. "A couple of cameras, a pair of night vision goggles, thankfully the contact lenses were safe," he added, since those weren't so easily replaced. "Some peripheral computer equipment. I also have an order in for some medical equipment that needs replacing." "Okay... sounds good. Did you ever find where we put my handcuffs?" he asked, grinning over at Ianto. "I've been using my spare set for Weevil hunts, but I'd really like them back. They're not in my quarters, so maybe I left them at your place last time I was over?" Ianto's stomach twisted at that grin and that question and he couldn't help grinning in response. "Haven't come across them at home, but we could have a look after dinner if you like. Whoever finds them gets to choose who is cuffed," he suggested, winking at Jack. "Nice... I love how you think, Mister Jones. If I'd only known earlier what a dirty mind you can have, oh the fun we could've gotten up to! Mind you, we're having plenty of fun now. But you know what I meant." Jack laughed and winked back at him, nudging him playfully with his hip as they walked. Ianto was laughing softly as they walked towards the restaurant. "Oh, you have no idea." Smirking, he realised he was actually happy without it being tinged with grief or guilt for the first time since they lost Tosh and Owen. "I've got a pretty good idea actually," Jack replied. He held open the door for Ianto and pinched his arse when he walked past. "If there's more you haven't shown me, then stop holding back." Ianto merely winked at Jack as he walked into the restaurant, grinning as he requested a table for two. It was good to keep Jack on his toes. Wouldn't do to let him think he knew absolutely everything yet. As they were led to their table, Ianto worked on wiping the grin from his face so his expression was as neutral as possible by the time they sat down. It was impossible though and there was a small satisfied smile on Ianto's face as he sat and accepted a menu from the waiter. Jack's eyes twinkled as he took note of that smile. He shrugged off his greatcoat and took a seat, scanning the menu as he decided what he wanted to try this time. It was nice to just get out and do things like this every once in a while. And Ianto was always good company. With just him and Gwen around now, Jack had gotten a painful reminder of just how short the life expectancy of a Torchwood employee could be. They had been lucky for years, but then they'd lost two friends in one night. He wasn't about to lose Gwen and Ianto too, no matter what. Ianto perused the menu, trying to decide what he felt like eating tonight. Beneath the table, he stretched out a leg and let it rest against Jack's. "What movie did you want to see?" he asked, remembering Jack had mentioned going to a movie. Having made his decision, he closed his menu and leaned back in his seat to watch Jack. "Well... we still haven't seen Ironman, Dark Knight, or there's the Indiana Jones movie," Jack suggested. He continued scanning the menu and smiled as he felt Ianto's leg. "Everything looks good... what're you having?" "The Pollo Nero," Ianto replied, his mind more on the choice of movies and then the entertainment afterwards. "Any of those sound like good movies. Ironman might be fun." "What's Pollo Nero?" he asked, making a face. "Chicken something?" "Yes, chicken," Ianto replied, poking his tongue out at Jack in retalliation for that face. "What are you having?" "I'm going to have the Bistecca Grigliata..." He smirked in amusement when Ianto actually stuck his tongue out. "What? I don't speak Italian... I just remembered pollo was chicken." Jack sipped his water and set aside the menu. He flashed the waitress a grin and ordered both of their meals, along with a bottle of wine. "Thought you might," Ianto replied, smiling as he reached for his water, sipping it as Jack ordered their meal and some wine. He noticed the flirty smile the waitress gave Jack and smirked. "Can't take you anywhere," he teased, amused by the flirting. "What? Can't I be friendly?" Jack asked, grinning over at Ianto. "Besides... you love it. And it's not my fault that people think I'm handsome." He shrugged and sipped his water again. "Anyways, I'm your date tonight. So don't worry about it." Ianto chuckled. "I'm not worried," he insisted, confident in the fact that Jack was going home with him and would be for the foreseeable future. He didn't know if he would go so far as to say he loved it, but it did amuse him. Jack continued grinning as he looked across the table at Ianto. "By the way... love the new suit. Looks really good on you, Ianto." Ianto smirked, pleased with the compliment. "I should wear this suit more often then." The waitress returned with their wine and poured them both a glass. "Ianto, you could be wearing nothing but a tie and I'd think you looked good," Jack replied once the waitress was out of earshot. He picked up his wine, swirled it in the glass, then smiled. "Alright... you want to make a toast?" Ianto chuckled as he reached for his wine and then reflected on an appropriate toast that he didn't think would jinx their night. "To...enjoying life to its fullest potential," he said after a moment's thought and sipped his wine. Jack smiled and clinked his glass against Ianto's. He took a sip and nodded in agreement, setting it down and lightly running the side of his boot up the younger man's calf. "With this job? We need to." Ianto managed to swallow his wine without choking on it when he felt Jack's boot slide along his leg. His eyes on Jack's, he deliberately - slowly - licked his lips. "That's nice wine. Good choice." Chuckling softly, Jack smirked at Ianto's reaction and slid his boot back down. He couldn't help it, but he just loved teasing the Welshman. "Thanks... I'm glad you like it." He winked and slid his boot upwards again, still sitting there with that satisfied smirk on his face. Two could play at that game, Ianto decided. Just as soon as he thought of a way to retaliate. He sipped his wine again, prepared this time when Jack slid his boot along his leg. He was smiling, enjoying Jack's attention. "Hmm," he mused, his gaze speculative as he gazed at Jack. "No work talk tonight. Tell me something you've never told me before. Anything," he added, leaving it up to Jack whether he told a light-hearted story or something more serious. He really didn't mind either way, he just wanted to know more about this fascinating man. Jack considered the request for a moment and looked up as the waitress delivered their food. "You already know all the important stuff," he replied, picking up his knife and fork to begin cutting up his steak. He knew he wasn't going to get out of it though, so he sighed and sipped his wine. "How about you get to ask me any one question you want and I promise to answer it honestly?" Personally, Ianto thought that was a matter of opinion, but then, if Jack said he knew all of the important things, then perhaps the things Ianto thought he should know weren't actually important. "Jack," he began after swallowing a bite of chicken. "This isn't about me forcing you to tell me things you don't want to. It was a general request. You could have told me about some alien you met out there somewhere who did dirty things to you and that would be fine. I didn't say it had to be personal. But if you say I know all of the important stuff, then that's good enough for me." "I don't talk much about things like that, Ianto. And you do know all the important things," he said. He sipped his wine again and sighed. "I have a habit of trying to forget the past because the present is what I'm proud of," he explained. "If you really want to know something though, it's easier for me to answer questions." Ianto could understand wanting to forget the past, but Jack knew everything about Ianto, warts and all, and Ianto felt like he knew so little about Jack. He didn't particularly want to rock the boat, or bring up unhappy memories, not when they were having such a nice night so far. He ate in silence for a few minutes, thinking about it all. "If I think of something in future, I'll ask," he finally said lightly, unable to think of anything he wanted to ask in this moment. "You have every reason to be proud of the present." Jack smiled warmly as he looked over at him. "Thanks, Ianto... that means a lot to me. And okay, sounds good." He ate some of his meal and nodded in approval. "Pretty good," he said, talking with his mouth full. "How's yours?" Ianto smiled fondly, knowing it was pointless pointing out Jack's table manners. They were as bad as his manners in bed, he thought with a smirk. "Mine is excellent," he replied, taking a sip of his wine. "Read any good books lately?" he asked, amused at his own question. He was realising just how much time they spent talking about work now that he'd banned that topic tonight. "Nothing new, nope. But I'm rereading 'Scavengers from Space' again." He smiled and ate some more of his meal. "What about you? Reading anything other than files or things down in the Archives?" "I read more than just files," Ianto replied in mock outrage, and laughed. "I'll have you know I'm reading Agatha Christie at the moment. Murder on the Orient Express. Of course, I haven't gotten very far into it as that would necessitate me a) being at home and b) being home alone." "And you prefer to be a) where ever I am, and b) not at home unless I'm with you," Jack teased. He winked at Ianto and slid his boot upwards once again for good measure. "Been a long time since I've read an Agatha Christie book though. They were pretty good." "Am I really that transparent?" Ianto teased, raising an eyebrow as Jack caressed his calf again. "It is good, so far. Maybe when I find the handcuffs, I'll cuff you to the bed so I can read some more without interruption." "You could if you wanted to, but I could think of better uses for having me handcuffed to your bed." Jack rolled his eyes and finished off his meal. "And you're not transparent... I just know you pretty well by now." "So can I," Ianto replied, feeling a little flushed as mental images raced through his mind. So many delightful things, and with Jack as a more than willing participant, the sky was the limit. He finished his meal and reached for his wine. "I think you know me better than anyone by now," he admitted, and sipped his wine. "Yeah?" Jack arched an eyebrow and smiled as he sipped the last of his wine. "So... do you want to have dessert here, or back at your place later?" he asked, with a definite suggestive tone. Considering how closed off and secretive Ianto had been with them for a long time, Jack felt a rush of pride that he was now the person to know him so well. Ianto wanted to be the person who knew Jack the best, but then, he realised, maybe he already did. Just because he didn't know everything didn't mean there was someone out there who knew more than him. "Back at my place," he replied with a grin, feeling a wave of arousal flood through him at the very thought of it. Jack motioned for the check as he grinned over at Ianto. When the bill arrived, he paid it, tipped the waitress, and pulled on his greatcoat. "Come on... the movie awaits and then back to your place. The sooner we get moving, the sooner you can have me for dessert." Ianto grinned and got up out of his seat, following Jack out of the restaurant. He debated dragging Jack back to his place now, but it was so rare that they actually got to finish a proper date that he didn't. Besides, it would be fun to snog Jack in the back of the movie theatre. They made their way back across the Plass in the other direction, heading towards the Red Dragon Centre. Jack paid for the tickets and handed one to Ianto, and decided against any snacks. He grinned impishly and sat in the back of the theatre with him, draping an arm around Ianto's shoulders. Ianto grinned as they took seats in the back of the theatre and as Jack's arm settled on his shoulders, Ianto let his hand fall off the armrest and onto Jack's thigh. Finally, revenge for what Jack had been doing in the restaurant. Ianto had been distracted and forgotten he was supposed to be thinking of something. His hand was slowly stroking back and forth on Jack's leg as he innocently watched the previews that were starting. Jack closed his eyes and sighed quietly, shifting a little in his seat and breaking into a grin. He lightly stroked his thumb up and down the side of Ianto's neck, listening to the previews as they played. Reopening his eyes, Jack leaned in and nipped playfully at Ianto's ear. Apparently they were getting started early, but Ianto wasn't complaining! Part of the fun was teasing each other to see who broke first. Feeling Jack nipping at his ear, he grinned and let his hand slide to Jack's inner thigh, still stroking lightly, close but not too close to where Jack probably wanted his hand to go. His eyes were still innocently on the screen, as if he had no idea what else was going on. However, Jack's thoughts were anything but innocent at this moment. He was completely ignoring the movie as he continued to nibble along the edge of Ianto's ear. He grinned and whispered suggestively into his ear, then pulled back and smirked as he finally looked at the screen. Ianto swallowed hard after Jack whispered in his ear and had to look away for a moment, heat flooding his cheeks. His hand squeezed Jack's thigh and while he shot the man an amused, but still mildly reproving look, his hand slid further along his thigh. Jack resisted the urge to take hold of Ianto's hand and move it closer, instead deciding to just enjoy the game and see where things went. He behaved for a while and just stroked his thumb up and down the side of Ianto's neck, occasionally letting his fingers drift back and forth along the young man's shoulder. Ianto was surprised when Jack actually seemed to take his warning look seriously. He was a bit tense at first, waiting to see what Jack would do, but when nothing happened for a while, he began to relax and started taking notice of the movie. For once, he was being relatively behaved because Jack actually wanted to see this movie. Jack adjusted his arm around Ianto's shoulders, content to just cuddle a bit while they watched the film. There were a few stolen kisses here and there, some roaming hands, but he was trying to keep from getting the both of them too riled up. Ianto slowly relaxed into Jack's side as they watched the movie, enjoying being comfortable like this with each other as much as the kissing and everything else they did together. As the credits rolled, Ianto stretched a bit and turned to kiss Jack. "That was a good movie. What I saw of it anyway," he teased. Jack chuckled and nodded, standing up and stretching. He walked with Ianto out of the theater and smiled, glancing over at him. "Yeah, it was pretty good. So what do you think? Successful date with no interruptions for work," he joked. "Don't jinx us!" Ianto said, looking amused as they reached the street. It would be just his luck if they made it this far and then missed out on the good bit. "I'm not done with you yet." "So..." Jack paused at the edge of the road and looked directly at Ianto. "We heading back to the Hub then? Or over to your place?" He already knew the answer, but loved asking the question anyways. "My place," Ianto replied firmly, reaching up to curl a hand behind Jack's neck as he kissed him quickly. "Come on. My car is parked just over here." He started walking down the road towards the Plass, trusting Jack to follow him. The Captain smirked and followed, arching an eyebrow in amusement. He loved the times when Ianto got like this and made firm decisions. It usually meant they were in for a long night, with very little sleep.
