As the temperature drops and the nights grow longer, it is only natural that London’s Wizarding Community is buzzing with anticipation over the upcoming holiday. Fortunately, this Halloween brought an extra special series of guests to the socialite hotspot – the Celestial Ballroom. On Friday, October 31, 1997, members of social activist group PAMM – Purebloods Against Mixed Marriages will hold its first international conference. Ms. Anastasia Bevington-Gallows, President of the UK chapter is proud to be the host of this event. “It means a great deal to me that representatives from all around the world are making their way to London for this great event. The more people who support the values of our organization, the greater the strength will be behind our cause.” Guests of honor include: Tejal Desai from India, Amir Khan from Pakistan, Feng Hui from China, Marshall Edwards from the Jamaica (Caribbean) and Malika Zarra from Morocco (Africa) – each of them representatives from the native countries of the largest percentage of ethnic minorities in the United Kingdom.
Here are what some of them had to say about the event:
Madam Tejal Desai: President of the Indian Chapter - “It is wonderful that we will have members from so many countries joining us on this great night. The issue of mixed marriages is an important one that affects not only sanctity of families here in India, but across the world. Mixed marriages go against the family structure our ancestors intended. These unions are weaker than those of pureblood wizards and witches and often end in tragically in separation - leaving children to suffer as products of a broken home.”
Master Marshall Edwards: President of Jamaican Chapter - “I have experienced first hand the turmoil and devastation a mixed marriage can cause. I lost my eldest daughter nearly twenty years ago as a result of her sinful relationship to a Muggle and I feel I only have myself to blame for her demise. I should have done a better job of sheltering my children, protecting them from them corruption and loose morals of the Muggle world. We do our families a great disservice by allowing them to interact with these people. This is why I chose to become the leader for the PAMM chapter here in Jamaica, so that I may help others avoid the misfortune my family has experienced.
Master Feng Hui – President of the Chinese Chapter – “What we stand for as an organization is more than just the disapproval of mixed marriages. We are doing our best to preserve our civilization. Studies have shown the effects that Muggleborns and Half-bloods have had on our society as a whole – on our weakening education systems, our sluggish economy, our dying culture. We cannot continue to willingly invite these Muggles into our world, whether through mixed marriages or integration of Muggleborn children. It simple is not safe. Currently, our chapter is working closely with PALES (Pureblood Against Lowered Education/Economic Systems) to develop regulations that will strengthen both schools and the workplace.”
