He had spent the afternoon flying through the cool autumn air. It was one of the best feelings in the world, soaring high above the castle free from the complications on the ground below. It was a position of power as well, giving Stephen the opportunity to look down for a change. But when the sun began to set, the weather got cold rather quickly and Stephen was forced to ground and come inside. The minute he walked inside the castle, however, his mind was immediately flooded with the thoughts he had been trying to escape.
His sister had written him a letter from jail. Why she bothered, he had no idea. The two were hardly close and even less so now that she was intent on damaging the family name, protesting the administration and leaving them open to be a target. Stephen had been on the fence about joining the Inquistorial Squad prior to what had happened to his sister. It was absolutely necessity once she had been imprisioned. He wasn't about to suffer for her actions.
Lorraine was apparently looking for a response from Stephen. What was he going to say? Kudos to you and your muggleborn boyfriend for throwing us in the line of fire? Hope you don't get sentenced to Azkaban? What she looking for praise or sympathy? Well, Stephen only knew what she was going to get - nothing from him.
His sore muscles caught up with him as he lied down on the large sofa by the fireplace. He stared at its flickering light for several minutes until his eyes closed and he nodded off.
