“Easiest way to explain it, is to think of one of those pretentious hippies telling you how to do your job at your grocery store.” Steve said as he finished off his meal before he leaned back in his chair. “Especially one that’s never been a clerk before in his life.”
He chuckled again at the last bit as he tilted his head back to finish off his glass of wine. “This is true. Though, I don’t know if I would go and be that spontaneous. Too many crazy people in this town, especially for a cute girl like you. Glad it worked out though.”
“No, it isn’t my business. Though it was pretty much written all over your face.” He said as he made a circular motion around his. “You had this whole shocked ‘omg does he know’ kinda look that I see a lot at the bar from the shyer girls who had a few too many one night. Good to hear he’s a great guy, though.” He was doing his best Cheshire Cat routine with the grin that went ear from ear. “And he does take some beautiful pictures. Are there any of the two of you that you’re hiding somewhere?” ----
Alice gave a small laugh and smirked. “Well I’d known him for a little while, but probably not long enough,” she admitted. She wasn’t bragging by any means but she also didn’t regret it either. “I gave my info to a friend with frequent travel updates. Not exactly the safest route but at least I was trying.”
“Ah no- that was not the ‘omg does he know I’m having sex with Jeremiah’ look. Because I honestly don’t care what you think about my sex life- or anyone else, frankly. I just- I don’t know, things are new with him and I- like I said, I don’t know how I feel about him exactly. The question caught me off guard. Go figure, I was thinking of emotions, not sex.” She was just waiting for the ‘typical guy/girl reaction’ comment at this point.
“As a matter of fact, there are pictures of us hidden somewhere,” she teased. “Although I’m sorry to disappoint- we’re dressed in all of them.” Well, bathing suits... those counted right?
---
“Well, that’s something at the very least.” Steve said with a nod of his head, though he returned her smirk as almost a mirror of it. “I’d have sooo gone ballistic on my sister if she did. Because she has, and I have.” Though, she was younger than them both and that just didn’t sit well with the protective brother. He watched out for ‘his’ after all.
A soft chuckle as he grinned at her. A tilt of his head. “Hey, I’m a bartender, nearly always when I get that look, out comes the sob story about screwing the brother’s best friend, or the friend’s boyfriend.” He shook his head a little bit at the thought. People did stupid things at clubs, that was for damn sure. “And I don’t know you well enough to figure out every look you have.”
The teasing got a grin out of him. “Hey, I’m an artist, I could probably sketch you naked right now and be fairly close.” He winked at her. “But, if you want, give me the pictures, one of each of you, and I’ll work up something. Clothed, unclothed, separate, making out, whatever. I just need a likeness for the idea that popped into my head.”
---- Alice gave a small smirk. “I guess that’s the benefit of not having brothers?” She didn’t really agree with that. While someone looking out for her would have driven her nuts, it probably would have been nice too- if she had grown up with it. Now she would have just felt suffocated and annoyed. Alice was pretty independant.
“This is why I shouldn’t hang out in clubs,” she told him, shaking her head with a somewhat pathetic look on her face. “Ha no you don’t, but you don’t have to assume the worst! My look was innocent.”
The comment about sketching her naked got another look from her. Between conversations about boobs, her sex life, and now this she was having a hard time wondering what they had connected over at the bar. “I’d really prefer you didn’t try to imagine me naked- or at least keep it to yourself.” She didn’t see what being an artist had to do with that at all, it sounded more like being a guy. “I don’t mind giving you images, but I really have no desire to be immortalized in art with Jeremiah.” As soon as the words left her mouth she’d felt a shift. Demeter did want that- but in the way it used to be. “I think it’s a bit early for that.”
