Her pulling away from him didn’t seem to bother the god in the slightest. Though, whatever else in her thoughts were about his desires, she might be surprised. Thoth had always been the patient one, balanced in all things, amongst his people. He had waited decades in this world, he had no trouble waiting days or weeks now. Samuel would be the impatient one in this relationship.
“Any final compromise has to be between the two of you. None of the rest of us can actually make that decision.” Thoth said as he turned to head back with her. His hands linked behind his back, as he walked, a stance that seemed to be easy for him. “Any wisdom or advice I give you, you would be the final person to decide yes or not to act on it. And I suspect you would take anything I say with a grain of salt, as your culture puts it, since I would be obviously biased. I was married to the soul within you for eons. But believe me when I say I have both your best intentions in mind. And it is possible to live in harmony. Melinda and Isis have done it, Samuel and I have been doing it for as long as you’ve been alive. Lucia and Ma’at do as well, though they’ve been bumpy lately.”
The question brought him to a moment of silence. “I do not know what exactly happened. But the riot that happened last month was not a natural occurrence. One of us, though not an Egyptian or Greek god or goddess ripped the balance. They threw everyone within the city into a chaotic violence. Everything you saw on TV or read in the paper was because one of us ruined the harmony. In a way that had to be purposeful. Though to what purpose, I do not know. The strings of ma’at were so fuddled and confused it hurt just to try and unravel what had been ruined.”
