“It is hard for me not to be patronizing, Imogen.” Thoth said with a soft, easy voice. “Even if I don’t intend to be. I am older than nearly every other being, even the gods, that has ever existed. Only those handful who existed at the creation of time itself are as old as I.” He shook his head a little bit as he considered her. “But, you would have been just as angry, and just as confused, and just as scared. You would have run in fear of us, thinking we were out to do you harm, whether it be rape or sacrifice or just brainwashing. And Seshet would have awoken all the same without even the option of talking to us to help you adjust. I made a mistake, and I apologize for it.”
“People have said and they will say many things. They are all true, I’m sure in one aspect or another.” He considered her for another moment. “I see you have spoken to Lucia over what Ma’at did to her. Did she also point out that it was my own vessel that revealed that foolish mistake? And that I did not stop Samuel from telling her everything that happened when Ma’at thought to usurp control?” He started to walk again, his hand moving to Imogen’s waist to make sure she walked with him this time.
“At some point, once she has fully awakened and learned the in’s and out’s of our new existence, Seshet will be able to do all those things. But, she should not do any of that. At least not without good reason. I have been awake within Samuel for more than twenty five years, and very rarely do I exercise my ability to control him like I am now. And, very rarely has he ever complained about what I’ve done in control. You and Seshet are more alike than you imagine. You have the love of the same things, you seem to have similar values.”
“We started off on the wrong foot, Imogen. Trust cannot be given, I ask that you give us the benefit of the doubt. I know all this isn’t fair, and you have your mortal family and other concerns on your mind and don’t want any part of a larger divine picture. But, if you have learned anything about us at all, you’ll know that the Egyptians lasted for so long while all the other pantheons on this world have come and gone because we take care of each other. You are my family as much as your sisters are yours. And we will help in whatever way we can.”
