He didn't seem particularly happy (and maybe that was because he simply was not) but Zinny didn't appear to mind. She shook her head at the offered candy (ha ha ha, taking candy from strangers was dangerous!) and she set her backpack between her calves on the floorboards as she buckled up. When she looked at him, really looked at him, she realized she had seen him hobbling around the hospital. It was sort of amazing to imagine he did carny work for a living then.
"Yesss," she drew out the hiss of the 's' and folded her arms again to retain what little warmth her body could hold. It wasn't so bad, really, not in the car anyway.
"Oh, awesome, where are you staying?" she was good about eye contact and even when he would look away she kept gazing upon him.
