Poseidon felt powerful, the cheer of the crowds who crowded around him and the winning horses in the big race of the day fed his soul. There were days when he only raced his own horses, standing on the winners podium and accepting the congratulations and handshakes from the crowd made him feel immortal again. It was for Jeremiah and not Poseidon but he was willing to compromise. Willing to steal the adoration of Jeremiah's colleagues and gamblers.
He still hadn't come down from the high and had waited until everyone was gone to strip down to nothing. The stables were a good distance from the track itself. The whole compound was spacious and beautiful. Open spaces, green grass, and areas of trees or overgrown patches. Jeremiah had loved it from the moment his father walked him around the property.
He left his clothes in a copse of trees, shifting from his mortal vessel into the body of his beloved stallion. It took time but it was getting easier. He hadn't been able to do it for years but gradually he could manipulate his powers again and could change into his favorite form. It would only last an hour or two but it was enough. It was worth the concentrated and painful effort as he ran around the deserted stables.
Poseidon was free, the wind in his hair, the burning in his muscles as he ran. Jeremiah was conscious but barely paying attention. He didn't get the sheer ecstasy that Poseidon felt at being a horse. He was willing to ignore it once a week if it kept the god happy. Jeremiah knew that the situation with Demeter, Cronus, Hera, and searching for Amphrite was keeping him on edge. Poseidon needed the energy release.
The sharp whistle caught his attention and he slowed the run. He turned his head toward the girl but ignored her as he did another circuit of the open space. She was talking to him but Poseidon was trying to ignore the lure of her voice. He would lose his shape soon and it would mean the loss of the exhilaration of immortality and running as a stallion again. He wasn't ready to stop yet. 5 more minutes.
