Dani didn't answer him, as the last spark of hope in her soul flickered out, and she went dead inside. Who was she kidding - even if Billy gave a single indicator that he'd leave her children alone after he was done with her, there was no credit to his word-promise. The fact that he didn't even humor her with it, promising to stalk her offspring as soon as she was out of the way was a testament of how truly confident he was in the plan. Not to mention a hatred that had obviously grown through time. Dani's thoughts went cold. Besides the occasional streak of water that ran down her cheeks (without sob or even change in expression), she was a stone. A frozen pond, where deeper waters churned. Dangerously.
As he indicated, she turned off the main street through a wide alley lined on one side by a derelict brick warehouse and a bunch of freight trailers on the other. That's when she started to flatten her foot on the accelerator; the car picked up speed, heading straight for the brick wall at the end of the t-section, without any indication of letting up.
