Neither Mari or Hunter attempted to go after Reed, staying with their youngest son, holding his hands. They spoke of taking his home to Indiana, of the relatives who would be happy to see him, and how he could paint any room in the house, that they'd turn the spare bedroom into his own studio. All the wonderful reasons he should come back with them.
So when he began to stir, they took it as a sign from God that this was what was meant to be.
"Baby...baby, look at me..." Mari said, petting his cheek as Ciaran struggled to focus his eyes. "Daddy and I are here, we're going to look after you until you're all better. My poor baby, you scared me."
Ciaran still couldn't focus his eyes, but he began to struggle to speak. As his frustration and pain grew, he finally let out a choked cry, followed by his best attempt at his brother's name.
