"We're going to do our best," the head nurse said to him as she got the needle into his arm, stepping back as blood began to flow from one brother into the younger. "He's doing really well, he's here with us still, that's great work on his part. He's a fighter, isn't he?"
She moved over to check Ciaran's vitals, hoping the next time she did that the blood pressure would be up. His poor heart just didn't have enough to pump at the moment.
Looking back at Reed, she moved over to take his free hand, giving it a squeeze. She could see the hurt in his eyes, and it broke her heart.
"...look how well he's doing..." she said to him softly. "And he's got his big brother here to look after him, I bet he'll wake up after surgery and be so happy to see you. I bet he knows you're here now, he knows you want him to stay with you..."
