"No, no.. stop.. don't say that," Reed pleaded. Saying 'I love you' was the same as saying goodbye, and Ciaran couldn't say goodbye. He just couldn't. Reed's face broke, his eyes closing painfully as more tears were pushed from them. But he forced them open. "You're gonna be okay, Ci. I promise. You're hurt, but you'll be fine. You have to be fine."
Reed's hands slid up his brother's shirt, placing them on either side of his face. "Hey, look at me.. look at me," he demanded in a louder voice. "Keep looking at me. Don't stop."
The first ambulance arrived, and workers jumped out of it. One of them grabbed at Reed's shoulder, "Sir, let us help. You need to move."
Reed shoved the woman roughly. "Don't touch me!" he screamed. He wasn't in his right mind right now. He couldn't process that these people needed him to move so they could help Ciaran. He didn't want to leave Ciaran's side. He was scared that if he did, Ciaran would be gone.
