"I know everything about you," Anye whispered back. "Some day you'll learn to stop being surprised by that." She didn't know if Bekah was awake or not, but she didn't seek the younger girl out. She beelined up the two sets of stairs to the third floor, not speaking again until they were safely inside. "Then don't," she answered, as if that were the simplest thing in the world. "But it doesn't matter anyway. Whether you wake me or not, it doesn't matter to me." She wasn't thinking along the lines of nightmares, more along the lines of Nick leaving in the night. Or trying to. Odds were good that would wake her up, but she didn't want him to leave without saying goodbye anyway.
She closed her bedroom door behind them, and headed to her desk long enough to grab the remote control to her TV and toss it to Nick. "Find something terrible," she instructed him, before heading to her closet and going inside. She changed quickly into pajamas, a pair of plaid cotton shorts and grey cami before going back into her room again. When she opened the closet door she half expected Nick to have bolted.
