"Oh my God, how have I forgotten to tell Emily your first crush was on John Travolta?" Anye teased. "The question is, would the network believe me?" She was joking of course, but there was just enough plausibility there to really make people think.
There was a time when possible innuendo or even very intentional dirty jokes would have flown right over Anye's head. She was the kid that never missed Sunday school, the teen who never got asked out on a date, skipped every dance, and despite book smarts, was pretty behind on social smarts. She was the little girl who covered her ears when people in the movies said a bad word, and the teenager that had to have the really dirty jokes in the same movies explained to her - frequently by her parents or brothers, trying desperately hard not to laugh. That Anye was long gone however, and at Nick's complaint of being sticky and sweet smelling, she immediately burst into laughter. "Nope," she said. "That's when you're with the other girls you hang with. You've just got me tonight. Sorry, buddy."
