He said "My apologies. I just didn't recognize you. Than again that's what a costume is supposed to do." He took another sip of coffee and said "I'm about as old as Nick and I met him in the forties when I was a circus strongman. I'm not what I used to be but I'm okay with that. I'd probably decline being a meta if I had a chance. I'm aging with dignity as far as I'm concerned. Arthritis bothers me sometimes but I'm still in fighting shape despite being in my seventies."
He was quiet for a minute before he said "I've been captured by HYDRA before. It's rough but he went through worse than I did. I talked to him once while he was in the Cube and he said he felt like he'd become a monster. The kid was afraid to die but he'd made his peace and was as ready for being executed as he could be."
"I fought alongside his father Jonah in Vietnam and his grandfather Walter in World War Two from Omaha Beach all the way to Germany. His grandfather even fought with me and Cap against early HYDRA soldiers, the old predecessors to Red Skull's Schwartzgard elites although Walter died from injuries he sustained against them he fought bravely knowing he was dying. Jonah is still alive and I still talk to him sometimes. I only ever fought with Adrian when a sleeper cell of Nazis was trying to attack England. The kids got guts and even after getting a piece of steel rebar through his shoulder he kept fighting. If anything of that soldier is left, he'll pull his weight and then some."
Dugan chuckled and said "It's odd, I have survived as everyone I knew as a young man died long ago. Nick and Steve are the only people still alive from back then that isn't HYDRA. I acknowledge that I train the soldiers who will replace me when I'm gone, but I'm still soldier enough myself that I want to continue fighting. I guess I'm just stubborn."
