Jessica's smile grew a little crooked as he admitted his angle and feelings over that clash. That what he really wanted to do was scare off the big bad monsters so she didn't have to. She felt color grow in her cheeks, but decided to write it off as the beer. If the bad guys ever figured out how much of a big softie the bulletproof badass was...
"You know a big chunk of me would have been ecstatic to let you do it, and probably enjoyed the hell out of seeing his face disappear behind your fist," she admitted and rolled the beer bottle between her palms, faintly smiling as she pictured that. "But you're right, again. If I let someone else do it for me, I'd know I was a chickenshit and he won." She wasn't a hero or some moral compass for others and insanely brave like Luke or Danny. But it was good to know that this one demon she could step up to.
It was easier to hear he wanted to protect her because he was worried and not because she was some feeble waif. "I worry about you too, you get into deeper shit than me. I'm kinda liking the idea of having you down the way," she grinned at him and nodded, lifting an eyebrow high in teasing. "As long as the next step isn't me getting bubble wrapped and stored somewhere safe."
