In the past few weeks, Caliban had been cleaning up the ruins, once known as the Alley on his own. His only companions were the rats of the sewer, and other life which called the underground area home. The few survivors of the Morlocks had already fled to other places, scattered in dark corners far from the remains of the Massacre so long ago. But Caliban had returned, hoping to make it a sanctuary once again.
He’d cleared away the worst of the debris, found some relatively clean bed and various supplies. He was still struggling to find sufficient food but that was only temporary problem for him. Caliban was still seeking a few things before he started to seek his former friends and bring them back to the Alley. Yet for now, he felt safe here, if utterly alone.
In truth he was aware of them both miles away, yet it wasn’t till they started to enter the sewers and get closer to his domain that Caliban paid them any attention. From his bundled coat he concentrated on the two mutant presences that were approaching into the city below that he knew so well. He recognized Wolverine instantly, his companion however he did not know. The powers were similar to Jean Grey, Phoenix, yet the signature didn’t match, not the same.
Caliban rose from his mattress and sheets where he was resting, knowing they were both a mere 500 feet away. Internally he debated for a moment if he should flee, or stay. Caliban knew these sewers well enough that even the tracking abilities of Wolverine could not follow if he so desired. Yet he was also curious why they were here at all. Perhaps they needed Caliban.
In the darkness, Caliban began to approach towards the mutants. He easily leapt up to the pipes above despite the size of his muscular frame. Once secure in the pipes and scaffolding, Caliban approached closer to the intruders. Once in a safe place, in the shadows, with places to flee, or attack from above, Caliban stayed still, silent. Till the two of them were a mere thirty feet away.
“Who Seeks Caliban?!” he yelled, causing his voice to echo down the tunnel. As if he really had to ask…
