Okay, that Natasha hadn't expected! Wanting The Avengers? He had about as much chance of that as he did of meeting Santa. That said, money could do a lot in this world of failing economics and consumerism. She slipped the thumb drive into her pocket with an understanding nod. She would get the low-down first, and work out a strategy for thwarting him when she had all the details in place.
"What about Pepper?" Natasha asked, "isn't she currently heading Stark Industries in Tony's place?" she wondered if some scuzz-ball attorney had figured out a way to invalidate her claim, or if it was simply a market-driven hostile take-over that King was planning. "Okay, so Tony's off the game-board, for now, who else is in play?" Natasha wanted to know exactly who her assets were going into this mission, whatever it was Fury had in mind for her.
Thunderbolts? Seriously? Natasha gave a roll of her eyes, "why is it when bad-guys name their teams they always pick obvious clichés? So, assuming there's only room for one bitch on the Thunderbolt team, what does Fury want me to do, other than stay alive until we can crush this asshole?" There was always a chance they wanted her to infiltrate the new team, or even seduce King into giving away all his trade secrets. She preferred the idea of simply strapping on her holsters, prepping a silencer and putting a bullet square in his forehead - and that was just for what he was doing with James. "Where are the other Avengers now? In case I need back up?" Never underestimate the use of a massive green giant or a god with a hammer that could shatter worlds and that was before Steve was clued in that King was Bucky's current 'keeper'. Ouch! Natasha didn't envy King in the least right now.
