Betty had been on her way to Thailand. The best place for her to escape and not draw much attention- Bruce had always gone to Thailand to escape from things. And Betty was running from the Civil War, she couldn’t stay at The Avenger’s Mansion that was Ground Zero for all the Civil War stuff where you had team mates again fellow (and possibly, now, former) team mates going up against one another. So it was no place for a measly human. Especially with Hulk and therefore Bruce Missing In Action. He was gone, no one really knew where or when but he wasn’t within contactable distance so Betty had one choice and one choice only save herself by leaving the danger zone.
She’d been driving to the airport at 3 am in the morning in a hire car when they’d descended on her, who they were she wasn’t exactly sure but they came- a lot of them came from every direction and they surrounded her. They had weapons she’d never seen before and they were barking orders at her. Of course she tried to escape- any human or being would, if you’re in danger you either fight or run- Betty had no hope fighting so she decided to run. Bad mistake. They popped the tires of her cars and as she exited her car and ran barefoot (since she’d left her heels knowing she couldn’t run in them they used trip wire and tyre puncture mats to prevent her escape by rendering her immobile. “I don’t know where he is” she begged as they descended. One shot her in the leg, the other in the stomach. Another jabbed her with a syringe of weird green liquid.
Then everything went hazy. She remembered floating in eternal darkness for what felt like forever only now and again coming Into consciousness. They jabbed her with numerous needles, tortured her body, pumped her with radioactive and therefore poisonous material. She was sure she was going to die multiple times and according to them she’d technically died 52 times and d somehow they kept reviving her. She didn’t understand what they were doing to her or why. But it hurt, all the time- no matter how much drugs they put into her- she was sure they were overdosing her- everything still hurt. Her veins burned, her bones felt like they’d been broken in so many ways (which they had) and her brain felt swollen and like it was about to explode.
Then she was out in what looked like a huge stone pool with no water in it, kind of like an arena almost with thousands watching at they shot at Betty then everything went red and she enjoyed the taste of vengeance as she broke peoples spines, beheaded anyone she could get her hands on; she was panicked as she tried to scramble out of the pit and confusion about what was happening; maybe she was hallucinating because none of this made any sense.
She woke up numerous times on a cold concrete floor with a small cup of water and a piece of mouldy bread for her to eat. She was chained to a wall and there was nothing else in there except a heavy metal door that she couldn’t reach. No toilet, no bed, no windows and nothing else- only Betty, a cup of water (that left her more thirsty than before she drunk the water) a piece of mouldy bread on the floor and a chain that kept her from moving around, oh and a splitting headache that made Betty wish she could use the bread to suffocate herself or the cup to slit her jugular.
Though Betty Ross didn’t remember any of this, the last thing she remembered was buying a plane ticket on her laptop whilst safely hiding away in hers and Bruce’s room in the Avengers Mansion. She was slowly coming too pretty sure she’d been hit with either chloroform or rohypnol and was now nursing a hang-over of said sedative. What had woken her was an obvious gun fight or ambush going on on the other side of the stainless steel metal wall in front of her. Her room at the Avengers didn’t have stainless steel walls. Something jolted the floor from beneath her which threw Betty across what she’d throught wa sa room, not an armoured truck until she realized it wasn’t her head that was causing her to feel unsteady, it was what she was in. She’d been kidnapped!
She laid flat on her back with her hands over her eyes trying to stop the nausea that was an after-effect of whatever drug they had hit her with. She couldn’t even feel her feet. She rolled a little and cried out in pain her whole left arm looked broken in so many places and as she slowly slid up into a sitting position she realized she was in some weird hospital-gown thing minus the slit in the back and it was covered in what looked like blood and puss. Her legs were mangled and her feet had deep cuts in them- what the hell had happened to her? The gun fight or whatever it was was still going on outside as Betty slowly slid towards the back of the truck. Then all of a sudden there was a loud explosion and she was in what felt like a tumble dryer- spinning around and around inside a metal case as the truck rolled. The motion caused the truck to slowly but surely split open expelling Betty from the carriage. She landed quite a few feet away from the truck which had continued going down even though it was now in pieces. Betty laid on her front and watched with her head tilted to the side as the Truck slowly disappeared from her field of view. She was laying in a shallow ditch unable to actually move when a gun man kicked her in her side and told her to get up. “I can’t” she moaned, and it wasn’t a lie. She’d used all her energy stores trying to sit up and move around the truck after the freak fall she’d just had she definitely just couldn’t move anymore. But he wouldn’t understand of course so he kept kicking aiming for her legs, her stomach and even her face barking orders at her that Betty just couldn’t fulfil. Betty heard the crunch of bone as his food connected with her jaw and all of a sudden something inside of her was furious and out of control. Betty suddenly felt a lot less close to death and helpless, and a whole lot more alive and powerful.
Whatever was happening to her the Guard or whatever he was squeaked and began to run. Betty was moving, She slowly pushed up off of the ground but when she looked down those hands and arms weren’t hers they were bulky red masses… She didn’t have time to understand before she was thrown to the back of her mind, like a passenger seat driver with no voice and no control. Something else was in control now and it wanted revenge. It chased down the kicker and threw him down the hill watching him roll it laughed and turned its attention back up tho the road where many vehicles were parked. The ground shook with every step and some men fired as others ran for their lives- they knew they were dead isf this thing got a hold of them. Betty didn’t understand why it was seeking revenge, she didn’t understand anything until the thing she was inside of lent down and was reflected in the windscreen of an abandoned truck. A Hulk. Betty was stuck inside a hulk, no, Betty was a Hulk- a Red Hulk. The Hulk was naked as it rampaged squashing cars and humans alike when they were all gone it sat and stared at an approaching vehicle. More to fight, it let out a warning growl as it stood ready to attack.
