Jean saw it, just a flicker, but it was enough to know that Alex was still in there, still fighting. She could understand that, how hard it was to just hold on. She wouldn't wish it on anyone, certainly not Alex. She hesitated, just a moment but long enough. She faltered, worried about the attacks on the others. Hopefully his power hadn't changed so much that it could actually damage Scott, and yes Logan would heal, it still didn't make it any easier watching the three of them take hits. She knew that Scot and Logan would help cover Lorna.
It was that voice in her head again that made her grit her teeth. It echoed, and bounced in her head, like boulders rattling against her brain. He threw a blast at her and she braced but it didn't matter. The energy, it fed the entity she herself was host to and if anything it was like a sudden rush through her system. Her eyes widened and bled from green to red. A slow smile creeping on her face. "We have dealt with one like you before. When we were only one, you are eternal, but you still have limits. Of time and space. We do not."
Jean had to assert herself for some control, the energy feeding the Phoenix was not a good thing right now, it didn't need to be stronger. Even if it was right. She had done it once before, she thought she would die from the pain of it, the concentration it took but she had separated them. That, however, was Scott and she still had a connection to him, even when he was dead to the world. She didn't have the same connection with Alex. Hopefully she could tap into the power enough to make up for it. Secretly hoping for another blast, the high was amazing, she got as close to Alex as she could and then let her mind focus, like a scalpel. Finding Alex in there and wrapping her mind around all else to pull at it.
