Steve looked at her, meeting her gaze, and let her speak. He wanted to say that he knew. That he understood. But a part of him couldn't, not really. Because he hadn't been in the position she had been. He hadn't been as exposed. He hadn't been as involved. He hadn't has as much to risk or as much to lose. At the end of the day, Steve knew her well enough to know that risk and loss weren't factors in her decisions, but they were still factors in the situation. In the fallout.
"You're welcome," he said, with a touch of a smile to his lips. Two way street.
"Now...I know you weren't going to just stare at the walls while you had dinner." Steve caged the television's remote from among the things scattered in front of him. "I hate to admit it, but I've gotten a little addicted to television." News, mostly. He was fascinated by how quickly information could be had nowadays. But he didn't think that was the mood he wanted to set for this evening. He felt good. He wanted to keep that going. "I found this movie channel...hang on..." He clicked onto Encore, just in time to catch the opening melody of As Time Goes By and he smiled. "You know, I remember when this movie came out. I'm told it's a classic now, but in my day it was just another Bogart movie."
