Emma scuffed her foot up against the wall, as much frustration as restlessness to get to Julian. "There's a force-field around the city, keeping us in. I've been working on that." As soon as it opened, she was in, pressing the right buttons, reminding herself this was quicker than scaling the building all the way down. It just felt slower. "It's like..." She trailed off, and switched the phone from one shoulder to the other, her voice draining off some of its hardness. "Like nothing I've ever seen before, Julian. I couldn't feel you, not at all, not until just now." She strode out of the elevator as it dinged on her floor, her legs striding, though her voice had a touch of meandering to it. "I thought I'd had the Exiling ceremony and couldn't remember it, before I realised it couldn't be that." Emma took a breath, and knew she could take another one, could give Julian an actually pause in the conversation to jump into. But. "I didn't realise how much I could feel you through our Rune until you weren't there." |
