He figured she would comment on his observation. It was precise, yes, more so than the average SHIELD agent got during basic training. What he knew was so much more, and not restricted by things like age. But he wasn't going to tell her the real reason behind knowing that kind of information. For all she knew, it was something he learned before his presumed death. He had been a sniper, after all. He needed to notice things like that to protect his team. And she was treating him almost like a friend, which implied that she did not know who he was -- who he had been. If she knew, this wouldn't be a simple conversation. But it still was, so he picked a simple response. "I like to walk. Can't help but notice things," he replied, not making a remark about the brief flicker of shock that he saw in her eyes. Her question made the corner of his mouth twitch, an unidentifiable flicker of emotion that vanished as fast as it'd appeared. "You always this concerned about people you barely know?" he asked, but only half interested in knowing her answer. Steve was better with people than he was. "It's a big hotel. Pretty sure you don't see everyone all the time." |
