WHO: Jon Snow & Daenerys Targaryen
WHAT: Two rulers dealing with an unforeseen situation
WHEN: 4th August
WHERE: Mandalay Pool Party
RATING | STATUS: Low | Complete

In this strange kingdom, he was reminded often of the words Ygritte had told him. "You know nothing, Jon Snow." In the past, those words had made him smile, even in the moments before her death. Thinking of those words now filled him only with frustration, knowing that there was no known way back to Westeros, to Winterfell, to all that he knew. He and Ghost were trapped.

The festivities all around the pools of water weren't of much interest to him; he wished only to observe in order to understand in some small way, if at all - because this kingdom was nothing like Westeros. Nothing made him feel at ease, from the odd manner in which people dressed to the strange and small device that somehow allowed him to talk to others without sending a letter by raven or standing right in front of them.

What did put him a little more at ease, though, was seeing someone else in the same situation and position as he was. The white haired queen, standing to the side, cut an imposing figure despite her short stature and seemingly fragile appearance. He knew better than to think such of a Targaryen.

"Your Grace," he spoke, approaching her with a measured pace. The presence of Ghost at his side, despite the persistent negative reactions aimed toward the direwolf, made him feel a lot better than he would ever admit. "You found your way outside, I see."

Dany was extremely overwhelmed by all of this. It was as if she had found herself in a whole new world. Most people here didn't know anything about Westeros. They didn't know they should show her respect either. Dany had been through so much in the past, to get to where she was now. And here, none of that even mattered a bit. No one, save for Lord Snow of Winterfell, seemed to show her any bit of respect. Well, that wasn't quite true. There were some people here who at least acknowledged she was a queen. But others were so rude.

Dany didn't like being at this disadvantage. She didn't like being without Tyrion, Missandei, and her children. Here she felt like no one, like some stupid girl playing queen. It was easy to let those thoughts get the best of her, particularly here watching them carry on at some kind of gathering she didn't understand. She stood out, and not just because of her attire. She relaxed visibly when Lord Snow approached her. At least she knew someone here.

"I have." She said with an air of confidence she didn't feel at the moment, as she regarded Jon and his direwolf. "But I'm not sure I understand any of this. What are they celebrating?" Dany had kept her distance from most of the other people here. "And why are they dressed so strangely?"

Jon couldn't help but see the way she relaxed when he approached, because of how visible it was. It felt almost strange, having the last Targaryen so relieved to see him. He hadn't even met her yet; he'd just left Winterfell on his way to see her, but she remembered meeting him. He chalked that up to just another strange aspect of this unfamiliar kingdom.

He rested his hand on Ghost's ruff, both keeping the direwolf close to his side and reassuring him as much as possible. Though, if Jon was being honest, he wasn't certain if that reassurance was for Ghost or for himself.

Jon glanced in the direction of the group of celebrating people, then returned his attention to Daenerys. "I don't know. I haven't spoken to many of them but perhaps one of them will tell us," he remarked. Their attire -- her dress, his leathers -- were so out of place in this very strange kingdom, and the weather was nothing like he was used to in the North. He'd gotten rid of his fur cloak and most of his thick winter clothes, because it was too warm to keep wearing them, and chose to just wear his simple clothes and leather armour.

"A lot of things are different here. We'll have to learn their customs." He was not certain how they would do that, but he was willing to try and make an attempt. There was no way home that he knew of -- that anyone knew of, really -- and it would be in their best interests to try.

"Perhaps." Dany said, in agreement. Though she wasn't sure he'd be correct about that. These people seemed more apt to make fun of them. Well they'd made fun of her, and she could only guess that Jon had been met with some of it as well. They were just so wildly different from the rest of the people here, they couldn't not stick out.

And Jon with his direwolf must have been getting a lot of attention. If Dany had her dragons, no one would dare disrespect her then. But she let the thought fade, this world was obviously so different from their own and it wasn't the people's fault. She would simply have to get used to things while they were here. She would make her way back home though, and she hoped Jon would too.

"Yes I suppose you're right." Dany said, observing the people. There was music but it was unfamiliar to her. And it did seem like people were having fun. "This feels a bit like a dream, doesn't it? Do you think we'll wake up back home where we belong?" The young queen knew that was probably wishful thinking. "Strange to see so many bathe together, and in their clothes...or some clothes, anyway."

“A little, aye,” he replied, joining the queen in observing the people. He didn’t recognise the music that was being played either, nor could he see any musicians. Perhaps that was one of the many things that he would eventually come to understand in this strange realm. Could it even be called a realm? He wasn’t certain if they were even anywhere near Westeros any more. He’d read that some people called it a city, but the only city he knew was King’s Landing and it was one which he’d never seen with his own eyes.

“I don’t know,” he admitted, and he wasn’t certain what he hoped would happen. His mind often thought about the war and how Sansa must be doing in Winterfell without him, if she even knew he had disappeared, but he couldn’t lie and said that he wanted nothing more than to return. Not upon discovering that Robb was here. Jon had missed his brother, a lot more than he’d admitted to anyone, and he didn’t want to lose him again. He and Sansa only had each other back home.

He glanced at the people bathing, noting a few that were less than clothed, and returned his gaze to Daenerys instead. Jon wasn’t one to ogle people, not even Ygritte, and a lot had changed since her death - even if she was alive here too. That was another complication. “Would you like to join the festivities?” he asked, both suggesting and offering. “We might learn something. And if not, a drink might do us both good.” With a smile, he offered his arm to Daenerys and, once she took it, headed in the direction of the drinks with Ghost loping along behind them.
