Steve didn't get winded easily, but there was something about the heat of a day in the desert that made him tire just a fraction sooner than he might have otherwise. The air was harder to breathe, maybe. Dry and hot and gritty with sand when the wind blew. Besides, he had company this morning. While he certainly wasn't going to "take it easy" because Natasha was there, he wasn't going to push to extremes that would leave her behind. It was good to have company, really. There were only a handful of people that could really keep pace with him as it was, and he welcomed her, despite, or maybe because of what had happened the last time he'd seen her. They may have been on opposing sides, but he'd never doubted that she had his back when it really mattered. And she'd proved him right. Faith in Natasha Romanoff? Steve had it in spades. If she ever needed a cheerleader, he was going to be first in line.
Steve pulled to a natural stop in front of a large strip of fountains in front of the Mirage across from the Venetian. He liked it here. The large amounts of water on both sides of the street meant the breeze was usually cooler, and they were pretty to look at. What claustrophobia he was experiencing being trapped in this strange place needed to be exercised in some way, and water helped with that. It was calming. The wind blew and he breathed deep.
"I'm glad you're here, Nat," he said, almost businesslike, looking at the water and not her. "I know I said it before but, indulge an old man." He shot her a glance and a smile. "I like having people I trust around."
