Who: Jay and Kate When: Friday, April 19, 2013, late at night Where: Outdoor Pool Rating: PG? Status: Closed/Incomplete
Not even two weeks here, and Kate was already feeling stronger than she had since being sent to South Peak a few months ago. The synthetic crap they’d forced her to drink there had nothing on the blood Mr. Cavanaugh procured for her. She only wished that Ms. Magnus had come along here with them. It was weird not to have any other vampires around, not that there had been many at South Peak, but she’d at least had a teacher or two that knew precisely what she was going through, that she could talk to about it all. She didn’t have that here, and as helpful as Mr. C had been in the couple species classes she’d had with him over this past week, it just wasn’t the same as it had been with Ms. Magnus.
The schedule was far more desirable, though, and tonight she rose with the setting of the sun, feeling well rested and strong. She was also feeling restless now, though, and so she took a look at the map of the school and grounds, trying to decide what she would do. With an inexplicable need to move, Kate thought that it might be nice to go for a hike, and then maybe when she came back, she would go for a swim. She hadn’t gone swimming in so very long, but hopefully by the time she got back it would be late enough that no one else would be around to see her.
It was a cool night, but she decided to forgo shoes. She’d never been too much of a nature person before, but ever since being turned, she’d felt a draw to being outside. Perhaps it was the instinctual need to hunt now, though her prey most often wouldn’t be found in the woods. She wouldn’t hunt at the school, even though she wanted fresh blood more than anything else. Even after four months she wasn’t used to the blood lust, though she did think she was in fairly good control of it. Having the real blood, even though it wasn’t really fresh, made such a difference, she thought.
Kate put on her simple and conservative swimsuit, a pair of jeans, and a long-sleeved, sapphire blue shirt, and then headed out. It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night, but she wasn’t complaining. It was only about an hour into her hike in the woods that she even realized that asking Jay or Olivia if they wanted to come along might have been a good idea. She loved that she had friends again, but it was still hard to overcome her solitary ways, and she thought that Jay and Olivia would understand.
The hike was relaxing and easy for Kate, and after another half hour out, she turned to head back in. She could have easily gotten back in a quarter of the time, but she wasn’t in any kind of rush, and she hiked at the same easy pace she’d gone out with. When the trees thinned out enough for her to see the cabins, Kate marveled at her sense of direction. While not directionally challenged, she didn’t think she’d have been able to find her way back so easily before.
There was no one out at the pool, probably because the water was too cold, but luckily that would have no effect on her. There were some definite perks to being a vampire, and she was beginning to think that they might even outweigh the drawbacks. She did miss food, and as much as she liked the night now, there was a part of her that truly missed the sun. What she wouldn’t give to be outside during the day and feel the warmth of the sun over her.
Shaking off the thoughts, Kate tugged her shirt off and folded it neatly, setting it on one of the tables near the pool. Her pants soon followed, and she looked around self-consciously to make sure no one was out still before diving into the pool. She couldn’t really feel the chill of the water, but it felt really good to slide through it, and she was definitely feeling relaxed.
