As Sam started checking out the door, John walked the perimeter of the room, looking for any access panels, and not finding any. He examined the pile of rocks more closely, trying to see if they might hide something useful, but it was impossible to tell and he highly doubted they did, anyway.
Finally, he stepped closer to Rose. "I understand that impulse, it's completely natural, but trust me it's the wrong thing to do. We have no trust with them and we cannot allow ourselves to trust them. We've got no guarantee that completing their task will eliminate the chance of punishment. They kidnapped us. We are prisoners of an unknown enemy."
There were plenty of things in life John didn't take seriously, including parts of the military code of conduct, but as a pilot who'd regularly flown behind enemy lines and then as CO of the only base in a hostile galaxy, he'd received intensive and regular SERE training, and that was something he took very seriously.
"I can't order you not to, but I strongly suggest you just have a seat and wait them out." He tried to smile reassuringly, but he wasn't sure how well it came off, so he moved back to the wall and took his own advice to have a seat. He fished out his PDA and started poking at it.
"I'm not great with tech, either, but maybe this thing has some games. Solitaire, chess, Angry Birds."
