The last couple of months had flown by, almost to the point that Wesley almost wondered where the time had gone when he realized what the date was. They had a house, they had their belongings, and they had a lead on a place that might be perfect for a bookstore. His family was back together again, something he hadn't thought would happen again - not after they lost Regan, and not after they had lost Fred.
Now, though, part of him was scared that something would break it apart again.
So when Fred started suffering from exhaustion, he started to worry, even though she told him not to. After all, she hadn't been back that long, and they had been running around in England and the States, trying to pull everything together for their move into their new house.
Then she started getting sick. And neither of them knew what to think. Was this an illness as a consequence of what had happened to her? The idea of that scared Wesley so much it hurt. But there was also another possibility. One they weren't even sure could be, considering what Fred's body had been through because of Illyria's infection. He wasn't even sure he could bring himself to believe it could be because if it wasn't and it was something else, he knew it would probably destroy them both.
But they needed to find out one way or the other.
Wesley was sleeping when he felt Fred get out of bed and hurry out of the room. He was just about to pushi himself up on the bed when Regan came in and crawled in with him. Even before she spoke, he knew she was as worried for her mum as he was. Wrapping his arms around her, he held her tight and kissed the top of her hair.
"We don't know, sweetheart," he told her, "but we're going to the doctor's today to find out. Hopefully, it'll be good news. If you want, you can come with us, but we'll have to see if the doctor will let you come back into the exam room with us."
He looked up at Fred came back into the room, giving her a gentle smile. "Are you okay?" he asked, reaching a hand out to her as she joined them on the bed again.
