Before Fred even gave her answer, Wesley knew what she was going to say. They had convinced themselves that coming here was the right thing to go for Connor's and Angel's sakes, but they hadn't given thought to their own, to what it would mean to their family. A new house in the suburbs couldn't make up for the fact that they were at the same firm that had caused them such grief.
Reaching up to cup to his wife's face, Wesley looked into her eyes and nodded. "Then we'll leave," he told her. "And we'll make Angel understand. He's a father - he knows what it's like."
Just then, Angel came into the conference room, looking happier than he had for the last few days since Spike had arrived. Wesley was fairly sure he knew why that was.
"Thank you for fixing Spike," he said.
"You make him sound like a dog," Wesley told him, raising an eyebrow.
"Well..." Angel's brow furrowed as he looked at them. "Is something wrong?"
Glancing at his wife, Wesley nodded. "We've been talking. Angel, I know we agreed to come here with you to help Connor, but it was a decision we were never truly comfortable with. This is the place we've been fighting for years, and it was because of this place that Lilah kidnapped Regan. And with Regan getting older and more powerful, we're scared--."
"Go."
Wesley blinked, not sure he had heard what Angel had just said. "What?"
"Go. Get out of here." Angel walked over to them, putting his hand on both their shoulders. "What happened to Connor happened because of Holtz's hatred for me and what I did as Angelus. I'm the one who should be bearing the burden. Not you too. Not after everything you've been through. I...I just didn't want to lose you too, but now that we're here...I think it's better you don't stay."
"Angel," Wesley said after taking a shaky breath.
He gave them a grin before leaning over to kiss Fred's cheek and clapping Wes on the back. "Take care of each other, all right. And Regan. And Giles. I'm sure he'll will be glad to have you three finally go home with him."
