While Fred and Regan got dinner ready, Wesley set up the table, realizing with a chuckle that this was the first time they would be using the dining room table they had purchased. They hadn't had room for one really in the apartment, especially since they had needed to clear out some things to make room for Regan's crib and later her bed. Wesley had always felt bad that he couldn't afford more for his family at the time. They could have moved into the Hyperion, but at the time, they had wanted something separate from the place where they worked, some place they could go to in order to get away from what they saw day in and day out.
Now, he and Fred could afford it, and they had what they had been hoping for. In a way, it made him thankful for the opportunity Wolfram and Hart had given them, but he knew they had to watch it. That was the path that led to the Senior Partners getting their claws into people. And Wes didn't want that to happen. For Regan's sake as much as for his wife's and his own.
When Rupert came downstairs after his shower, Wesley smiled at him as he helped him with straightening up the house as well. It wasn't long before they were sitting down to dinner with Lorne and Martin - Regan very obviously playing Liss Miss Matchmaker. Wesley was almost worried that Martin would be annoyed by it all, but he actually seemed quite interested in Lorne.
And Wesley could see now what Regan had been talking about with Lorne and the way he was looking at Martin. By the time dinner was over, Lorne was offering to show Martin around Los Angeles, even offering to take him to some of the clubs they he knew. A few minutes later, they were planning to go out to a nearby piano bar that evening, and after Martin had collected his jacket, they headed out.
"Well," Wesley said with a laugh. "That went rather well."
"I knew Martin would like Lorne!" Regan said, practically bouncing.
Wesley chuckled and looked over at Rupert and Fred. "Come on, sweetheart. It's getting a bit late, so why don't we go upstairs and get you ready for bed. Maybe Uncle Rupert will come up and read with you once you're ready."
