After going back to his office and gathering up the amulet, the source book, his journal and a few others things, Wesley headed home with Regan and Fred, rather glad to be out of the office for the rest of the day. He wasn't sure he could have taken Angel and Spike bickering for the rest of the day - they had been bad enough in the short time since Spike had popped out of the amulet. That, and he was still angry at Knox for what he had said to Regan. Even if Fred had fired him and Angel had thrown him out of the building, he couldn't believe that the little git actually thought he had the right to talk to a nine-year-old that way. Or to act the way he had been toward a married woman.
When they reached their house, though, he decided that he wasn't going to allow himself to think about Knox anymore. Prat wasn't worth it. Regan and making her feel better was more important, so when Fred suggested a movie afternoon, he smiled, knowing that would help. They had done it as often as they could after Regan had come back to bond with her since they hadn't had a chance to be parents to her while she had been in the other dimension.
"Of course I'll join you," Wesley told Regan before she disappeared up the stairs. He then returned his wife's kiss and nodded when she told him to go call Rupert. "I won't be long, love."
Hurrying down the hall to the room he had set up as the library and study, he put his satchel down and pulled out the amulet, which he stared at for a moment. He then sat down and picked up the phone to call England.
"Hello?" a familiar voice answered after a few rings.
"Rupert, it's Wesley."
"Wesley. Is everything all right? You've started at the firm, haven't you?"
"We did. It's been rather--it's hard to describe, really. A few surprises, to say the least. Including an old face popping up."
"Oh."
"Spike."
"What?" Rupert's disbelief was obvious. "Buffy said he burned up."
Wesley explained what had happened, telling him what little he had been able to figure out about the amulet.
"I never got a chance to see that. I'm going to need to actually study it to help you figure this out. I'll get some things together and fly out to California. They can do without me here for a bit."
"Thanks, Rupert."
After hanging up, Wesley looked at the amulet for a few moments before setting it down and heading out to the living room. He grinned when he saw his wife and daughter sitting on the floor in their pajamas.
"I think I'm over-dressed for this. I'll be right back."
Hurrying upstairs, he quickly changed into his sweats and t-shirt before returning to join Fred and Regan, sitting down with them on the floor.
"Rupert's going to fly out to help us investigate the amulet and what's happened to Spike," he told Fred.
