APEX ATTACK: PARKER PHARMACEUTICAL It started out like almost any other Fourth of July. Only partly cloudy, temperature hanging out in the mid-seventies, the night punctuated with the rumble of fireworks that were all actually very illegal in the state of Illinois. But illegal fireworks weren't the DMS' problem. The regular police could handle that. For the Orange Team on patrol, it'd been a boring night. Wandering through the districts of Chicago as part of the traditional show of force that ostensibly reduced Rogue activity. Everyone else in the country was having a good time, eating hot dogs and drinking... well drinking just about anything. 'Murrica doesn't discrimate its booze on her birthday. The Orange Team had nothing to do but look around, nowhere to go but wander their usual route, nothing to see but the flicker of those illegal explosives in the sky. At least until just after ten, when the call came over the comms that they were needed a few blocks away. Now. And THEN what happened? The Agents and Operatives of the Orange Team were given word that a small pharmaceuticals lab's silent alarm had been triggered, and a quick check of security footage by staff had confirmed that the intruders were five metahumans -- two of whom had been immediately identified as known (if relatively minor) members of APEX. Thanks to the early tip-off the team was able to arrive before the rogues had left, though it wasn't until after the fact that anyone found it strange the lab had been able to call in DMS support so quickly. Upon arrival the team found that the rogues had split into two groups. Three metahumans (a seven-foot-tall purple ogre-like man, a middle-aged woman with elasticity, and a young man with the ability to control and turn into sand) were trashing the place, destroying everything they could in the main laboratory. Meanwhile, the two others (a cyberpath and a teleporter) were going through the computers and file cabinets in the side office, searching. So what do WE do? Alisha Brooks, Ben Harper, and Matt Delaney were forced to engage the purple ogre. Fighting him, they found him resistant to DMS tranquilization (if the Agent even bothered with that), and similarly thick-skinned enough to be resistant to bullets. Taking him down will require creative thinking. Meanwhile Carlos Tan and Agent were attacked by the elastic woman at a distance, as she used the lab tables and destroyed equipment for cover and proceeded to punch and kick the team around said cover with her flexibility. The rest of the team was attacked by the sand manipulator, who unleashed a small scale sandstorm, while attacking with psammokinetic blades and clubs. In the course of this, Elsa Walker found herself knocked into the office with the cyberpath and teleporter. The cyberpath attempted to run, while the teleporter, after locking eyes with Elsa, could be heard saying "Well fuck this!" before disappearing with the files she'd gathered and leaving her companions behind. End Results The teleporter escaped with some files, but being caught mid-search maybe she didn't find everything she was looking for? The rest of the rogues can either be subdued/captured, killed, or escape (random rolls, influenced by the decisions of players fighting them). In any case, the Orange team goes home at midnight, tired and sore and probably grumpy about missing the potluck in the Atrium. |
