I knew I should've gone to Yale... Professor Brad Johnson's lectures were famous. Specifically, they were famous for how utterly and incredibly terribly boring they were. It wasn't that Johnson was a bad teacher -- his seminar and lab classes were widely regarded as some of the best in the midwest, if not the entire country -- it was just that some people weren't meant to lecture. Some stutterred. Some were too quiet. And some, like Professor Brad Johnson, were just utterly and incurable boring when reading from a script. The class (Genetics and Mutation) had only gotten through twenty minutes of its scheduled two hours for Monday afternoon, and half of Johnson's graduate students had already started drifting off ten minutes ago. They were probably the ones most surprised at the sound of the lab three doors down exploding. And THEN what happened? Campus security called the DMS immediately; after Rogers University, this kind of thing was generally considered a big deal. Since it was around four o'clock (i.e. when the Green Team was wrapping up their patrol and the Orange Team was about to go out, both teams were sent in to handle the attack, speeding across Chicago to get to Kent on time. Along the way, KC security kept them informed of the APEX movements on campus, and the student response. The initial attack, security reported, was in the Summers Science Center, on the West side of campus. Two empty labs on the fourth floor were broken into and trashed, while a third lab with an attending class was similarly attacked, sending the students and professor within running. Two floors down, a second APEX team hit the professors' offices, tearing through and ransacking them, again sending the bystanders fleeing. A campus alert was sent out, declaring a state of emergency and evacuating the science center and its neighboring buildings, while APEX was busy with their intended mission. Only one class was unable to get out -- a graduate lecture on the fourth floor, taught by one Professor Brad Johnson, was cornered by the APEX attack on the labs. It was decided en route that the Green Team would go up to the fourth floor to catch the larger group with the class. The lecture itself was being guarded closely by two APEX members: a hydrokinetic bruiser with a bulky aquatic form, and what looked like a large monster made entirely of a patchwork of leather plates. Meanwhile, three others were in the process of tearing through the labs: a young lady with the ability to shoot small daggerlike projectiles from her fingertips, a man shooting lasers out of his eyes, and an individual seemingly made of copper. Meanwhile, the Orange Team went to intercept the APEX team rummaging through the offices on the second floor. Upon arrival they found themselves facing a half-man/half-snake hybrid, a smoke-manipulator, an electrokinetic, and a young man with a flaming sword -- the last of whom held Brad Johnson by the collar, demanding he tell them "Everything he knows." With the DMS teams arriving, Professor Johnson and those of his class that escaped ran for it. Eventually everyone ended up in the lobby of the Summers Science Center -- where they were met one Mr. Elliot Anderson. You might know him better as Zenith. So what do WE do? HALT, AZRAEL, and GOLF split off from the team to fight against the hydrokinetic and leather bruisers holding the class hostage, and keep that situation from decaying further. They can prioritize to shield the students from harm, give APEX a good shock and take them out, or try to strike a balance in between. (ONE QUALITY ROLL, TWO PASS/FAIL ROLLS) The rest of the Green Team headed for the labs, and the group there. ECHO and Green Team 5 set after the human nailgun, doing their best to keep from getting pinned down. VANISH and VOLT played a deadly game of hide and seek with the Evil Eye. Lastly, BELLADONNA found him-or-herself going one-on-one with the Brass Bruiser. (PASS/FAIL ROLLS) Two floors down, HIVE and SONIC tried their hand at snake charming. Meanwhile, HURRICANE and SQUID and Smokey tried to clear the air. KNOCKOUT and Orange Team 6 decided to try their luck against the electrokinetic. And lastly, JULIETT and Orange Team 8 brought superpowers and/or guns to a sword fight. As stated above, Professor Johnson ran for it the second his captors were distracted, so no need to worry about keeping him safe. (PASS/FAIL ROLLS) ...At least not until after BOTH TEAMS found themselves converging on the lobby, where they ran into Zenith, who'd recaptured Johnson and was covering any of his minions still trying to get away. They're not equipped to take Zenith out, but they might just be able to fight him off enough to save Johnson, and catch any APEX members that escaped the earlier fights. (PROGRESS TO FINISH; 15 COMMENTS, GOAL ???) End Results TL;DR: Kent College was attacked by two APEX teams on Monday, 8/17: one ransacking the offices of the professors there, one destroying the labs. A class of forty students was held hostage, of which ALL FORTY escaped unharmed. The professor of the class, Dr. Brad Johnson, was also held hostage, escaped, and was re-captured when Zenith appeared on the scene. Johnson was RESCUED by the group in the end. Zenith got away, but EVIL EYE, BRASS BRUISER, SNAKEMAN, SMOKEY, and LEATHERFACE were caught by the DMS Teams fighting them, while the SWORDSMAN, the ELECTROKINETIC, and the HYDROKINETIC were killed by AGENT GOLF trying to escape under Zenith's cover, after the team managed to fight the APEX leader off. This was all reported on the news, which arrived on scene with cameras in time to broadcast the DMS/Zenith showdown live, albeit from outside the building and thus with an obstructed view. Any Deltas with day passes to attend classes at Kent might have been on campus, in the building, or even in Johnson's class for all of this (since the Lockdown ended Monday morning). They would have received an emergency text from the school informing them of the danger and the evacuation of the science center. Being Deltas they obviously cannot use their powers to interfere in the events above. BECAUSE I WAS A DAY LATE POSTING THIS: everyone from Green/Orange will have until the end of the day Tuesday 8/18 to reply with claims and their responses. Rolls will be made either once all the replies I need for that roll are in, or at the end of the day Tuesdaywhether they're in or not -- the exception being comments for the Zenith fight, which will each be rolled ASAP after the comment is made. |
