META MEDIA: July 31st YOUTUBE/GAWKER MEDIA: Hawaii DMS Pulls “Metalicious” From YouTube [ty cat for the article] Metalicious, a monthly improv/stand up show put on by the metahuman residents of the Hawaii DMS facility, has had the YouTube upload of its most recent show has been pulled. An inside source says that it has to do with a performer's parody version of "Getting to Know You," with the lyrics altered so it described interactions between metahuman residents and DMS agents. Agents argued that the song violated the residents' code of conduct, resulting in the pull. The inside source questioned the fairness of this act, since Metalicious routines are always submitted to the head of resident supervision before they're performed. Despite the Hawaii DMS's efforts, however, the lyrics to the parody song and a description of the performance have been posted on tumblr… Marie Claire [UK edition]: Meet the Meta who will better mind your money Financial analyst Thalia Sconto (Delta: Enhanced Analysis) advises us on how to manage debt - and shares her insight on what is REALLY going on with the Euro... Salon.com: The Church of Mortal Souls to reconsider their position on... global warming [ty loren for the suggestion] You read it here first. The Church of Mortal Souls is recanting! Well, their stances on carpooling and greenhouse gases at least, that is. “The Church’s official position is that global warming is an imminent and real danger that our major industries and money makers choose to turn a blind eye to and indeed see as an inconvenient truth,” says spokesperson Tyrone Rees. When asked by Salon.com on the relative danger of global warming in comparison to - oh, say that Delta level meta who leaves ink footprints whenever they promenade down the street under the watch of their trusty agent, Rees declined to comment… Huffington Post: Moms Against Masks call for Disney boycott [ty loren for jogging my memory about Elsa] “Subversive” and “Disney” are not normally two words that would go together in a sentence. But unless you were living under a boulder in late 2013, they might have been two words that crossed your mind. More precisely when you watched the runaway girl power hit Frozen, featuring the regal and troubled cryokinetic Elsa. “Cryokinetics are usually Betas, but I’d say that Elsa would be an Alpha due to how powerful she is - and, yes, her potential for damage,” says Deltas Anonymous representative Sasha Cowen. “Even though the movie doesn’t say in as many words, she’s clearly a Meta. And I think she is a positive depiction of one too. She’s a good person, a sympathetic character, who shows that even a power like hers can be enriching if given access to the right care and support network.” Cowen adds that Frozen also cautions how fear and misunderstanding of the unknown can lead to rash decisions, and that the isolation of those who are different benefits no one. However, not everyone agrees. “It’s an insidious, sinister message to put in what appears to be an innocent family film,” claims Moms Against Masks member Alicia duPree. “I make my children turn off the TV at precisely 8:30 pm, should I have to vet Disney productions too?”... Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Sunday, August 2nd JOHN OLIVER: [reads out snippet of Huffington Post article] “Well then. To the Moms Against Masks, I advise you to “...let it go, let it go, I am one with the wind and sky...”” OOC: I will be putting these up every Friday, unless If you want to make suggestions of future stories, there's a dropbox here.
