"He is certainly wise," Elizabeth says, smiling to soften the absence of agreement at the compliment to her. "I think of him often."
Perhaps that's something they have in common; homesickness. Though, Elizabeth doesn't miss London as much as she misses her parents. And as much as she wishes she could see them again, it was her own decision to seek new employment and not passage back to their home -- not her home, any more, her home is a broken wreckage on the sea floor.
