Malik looks shifty. It's really hard to communicate what exactly happened entirely through mime, and he's not certain he even wants to. He admires Harlan and Hardaway; he's always entertained fantasies about someday being able to wield a sword or a staff like that, but actually having seen it in action on someone who hadn't attacked them first, who had been perfectly nice to Malik, and would have even been willing to help his injured sister if he'd actually had one...
He tries to mime 'very tall man' again. There are two of them on the ship, but he's got different (and less polite) sign language for the Captain. For Harlan, he hunches over and imitates a large, bristly, bearlike drunk--accurate enough, and he's shown the imitation to Jin Yoon before--and to represent Hardaway, he runs his hand over an imaginary shiny bald head. He repeats the stick-whacking gesture, and jerks his head towards the deck of the ship.
Malik's sign language doesn't always make a great deal of coherent sense, but dammit, he tries.
