Mohinder's not sure which idea would be less appealing to the Captain--a watchmaker doing the repairs on their ship, or that particular watchmaker being Mr. Gray.
And yet Kaufman hasn't seen how well Gray seems to understand the ship already, how sure of himself he seems. Mohinder pauses.
"I have no position on the ship, aiya. I serve as a surgeon, sometimes, to pay for my passage, but I have no authority." It's as it should be, he supposes; he's not qualified to give advice on sailing or anything.
But...he wants an excuse to see what more Gray can do.
"But I can be persuasive. The Captain knows I'm not often wrong." That last is stretching the truth a bit, but he wants to think he can make Kaufman listen. Especially if Gray would be willing to work for a reduced fee. Money is tight these days.
