John really hadn't been sure what to expect. He was well aware that Chas had gotten attached. Hell, he'd gotten attached too. And the exorcist couldn't honestly say that it was entirely despite Chas' tendency to ramble, or his persistence, or...Well, the point was, John liked him. He just didn't say it.
"You’ve got to be fuckin’ kidding me."
John rolled his eyes. Yeah, yeah, give him flack for trying to deal with it in his own way, for not really wanting to think about it. And then, Chas stepped forward and punched him in the jaw.
John, though he didn't know what would happen, would never have thought he'd get hit. He'd even had words waiting on the tip of his tongue when Chas punched him out of nowhere. It hit, and John bent, a hand flying up to his jaw and a stumbled to keep his balance. When he'd straightened he just blinked incredulously down at Chas.
"What the hell was that for?" So maybe John wasn't always so quick on the uptake.
