"Yeah." Spence shifted, pulled his fingers up through his short hair. He glanced down at Alice, and a smile was tugging across his mouth when he looked up away from her.
"I couldn't remember the way your laugh sounded." Okay, that was out of the blue. And sheepish. Spence straightened away from the wall and looked back towards the door to the bathroom. When he at last found the words he was groping for, he spat them out too fast, like they'd cover it up.
"She didn't know there was an anti-virus. But I remember...when I had the gun...I told you, and her where I had left it."
